The population of New York City is larger than the population of all of the red states

New York City has a population of approximately 8.5 million people. The combined population of all the states that typically vote "red" (Republican) in recent elections, often referred to as "red states", is significantly higher. For example, Texas alone has a population of about 30 million, Florida around 22 million, and several other red states have millions more. Together, the total population of all red states far exceeds the population of New York City.
